It’s easy to agree the past academic year has been the most tumultuous for education providers and students everywhere. Nonetheless, I was thrilled to be able to take on the opportunity to intern at a PR agency over the summer – an aspiration of mine since applying for my undergraduate course at university.

One of the most refreshing aspects of my time spent here at GEC PR, has simply been the chance to work in the office. Working virtually has become such a huge part of the new ‘normal’ society has had to adjust to, and while it can be efficient to have that option, nothing tops physical interaction with others in a safe, supportive environment. The little things from morning greetings to team lunches has made all the more difference to me – a camaraderie as well as a professional relationship has been built that has made me feel like a true internal member of the company.

Accessibility has played a significant role in helping me to discover more about the world of PR and the travel industry. With Company Directors, Fiona Anderson, and Sarah Salord just a swivel of a chair away, I’ve benefitted not only from the plethora of knowledge and experience they have to convey, but the first-hand insights into how everything comes together. Being involved in the working process with actions such as distributing press releases and compiling monthly reports for each respective client, has been both interesting and rewarding. The great thing about PR too is there is always something going on – no two days are the same.

The saying ‘time flies when you’re having fun’ is a perfect way to describe the last 3 months for me. I’ve developed a growth mindset, taken on new responsibilities, and communicated with ease and confidence – but most importantly, I’ve learnt to never stop being curious. I now see every day as an opportunity to expand my knowledge and discover something new.

I want to sincerely thank the team at GEC PR for making this such an amazing and insightful experience. I wish them all the best, and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for me!
