The Maldives Tourist Board, which celebrated its 34th participation at World Travel Market this year having first exhibited in 1984, welcomed an even larger stand and delegation than ever before with 169 delegates from 65 companies from across the Maldives tourism sector attending the show.
The Maldives is made up of 99% sea, so it’s no surprise that fishing plays an important role in the island nation with around 30% of the population working in the fishing industry and tuna fishing in particular providing a major source of income as the nation’s primary export.
The Maldives was named as runner up in the ‘Best Islands Destination’ category at the Condé Nast Traveller’s 2018 Readers’ Travel Awards, which was held at the Ham Yard Hotel in London on 3rd September 2018.
