With an offering of more than 2,500 restaurants and bars, the World Heritage City of Philadelphia has something to whet any appetite and this summer, the East Coast city will serve up a delectable menu of beer gardens and festivals.

Famous for the Philly cheesesteak, Philadelphia has also established a reputation as one of the most prominent craft beer cities in the world and is often referred to as the ‘Best Beer Drinking City in America’. Alongside historical brewpubs and renowned breweries, the city is also home to award-winning restaurants, traditional markets and foodie festivals. Mouth-watering food and drink events in the city this summer include Parks on Tap, which is running for an impressive 23 weeks from 25 April and Philly Beer Week from 1 – 10 June.

Philadelphia’s Beer Gardens
During the summer months, Philadelphia’s beer gardens offer fun-seeking locals and tourists a relaxing spot to quench their thirsts. Hotspots include the lively Independence Beer Garden, which offers travellers two special collaboration beers from Philly’s Yards Brewing Company amongst its 15 draft beers, and Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Pop-Up Beer Gardens. Frankford Hall, a German-themed beer garden from award-winning restaurateur Stephen Starr, offers Jenga and ping pong games to visitors, along with one-litre boots of beer and bratwursts. Parks On Tap: 25 April – 30 September 2018
Returning for a third summer in 2018, mobile beer garden Parks On Tap will travel to 23 different parks in Philadelphia over 23 weeks. Starting at Azalea Garden on 25 April, the travelling beer garden will provide visitors with beer on tap in a relaxing park environment featuring comfortable chairs and hammocks. The initiative encourages visitors to explore and enjoy Philly’s extensive system of public parks and this year, Chef Brandon Thomas will guide a meat-centric menu of barbecue favourites, such as pulled pork sandwiches and “Beer-Can” chicken, all from a custom smoker. For beer connoisseurs, Kensington’s Saint Benjamin Brewing Company has created an exclusive collaboration beer called Parks Pale Ale, an easy-drinking summer sipper packed with wheat, oats and a healthy dose of Centennial hops. The mobile beer garden will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5pm – 10pm, on Fridays from 4pm – 11pm, on Saturdays from 1pm – 11pm, and on Sundays from 12 noon until 10pm. Philly Beer Week: 1 – 10 June 2018
Merchant William Frampton opened the city’s first brewery in 1683 and the first ten days in June will celebrate Philadelphia’s beer-drinking roots during the Philly Beer Week festival. Beginning on the Friday following Memorial Day in the US, over 50 breweries will take part in the beer-related festivities, which will include live music performances, citywide pub crawls and a beer and kayak excursion on the city’s Schuylkill River. The events will provide travellers with an opportunity to sample beers from local brewing companies and experience the city’s quirky neighbourhoods.
