PROTECT YOUR TRAVEL PLANS WITH
APH.COM’S GUIDE TO THE BEST TRAVEL INSURANCE POLICIES FOR 2024

December 2023 – It looks like it’s going to be a bumper 2024 for travel, with nearly six in 10 British travellers planning to book at least three or more holidays next year as well as spend more on international travel according to research from Luxury Escapes this month*. With extra hard-earned money spent on travel, it’s more important than ever to plan for the unexpected and Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) has pulled together a guide comparing the top travel insurance policies for UK travellers.

Available at www.aph.com/travelinsurance, the handy and detailed guide compares policies for the top 20 insurance providers including AA, Aviva, Direct Line and SAGA covering Medical Cover, Cancellation Cover, Personal Possessions and Winter Sport options.

For travellers aged over 80, there are limited choices when it comes to Single Trip and Multi Trip policies with only half of the companies researched offering travel insurance to this age group including Admiral and Rock Insurance, covering travellers up to the age of 85. AA, AllClear, InsureAndGo, Post Office, SAGA, Tesco, Virgin Money and Zurich don’t specify an age limit to their Single Trip policies however this does change for Multi Trip policies depending on the company.

When it comes to replacing important documents such as passports and lost or stolen money on holiday, there are a range of different options to choose from with HSBC and Barclays providing a generous £750 to replace emergency travel documents such as passports, driving licences or visas. Whereas other companies, such as Allianz, CoverForYou and InsureAndGo offer a maximum of £250 in their most premium policies available, so travellers should check they have sufficient cover.

It’s always advisable to book travel insurance in advance to make the most of the policy’s cancellation cover, covering any unfortunate events in the lead-up to the holiday. Cover can range from £1,000 with AA’s Bronze policy to £25,000 with AllClear’s Platinum policy for a trip cancelled or cut short (within the policies T&C’s).

For Winter Sport fans looking to hit the slopes, optional additional cover can include damage, loss or theft to ski equipment however this does depend on if the equipment is hired or owned. For example, SAGA will cover up to £550 for hired equipment and up to £750 for your own equipment. For skiers unable to ski due to the piste closing, then policies cover a per day cost ranging from £10 per day with the Post Office to £50 per day with Rock Insurance and Virgin Money Premium cover (up to a maximum of £500).

Nick Caunter, Managing Director of Airport Parking and Hotels (APH.com) said, “It’s clear international holidays are one of the UK consumer’s top priorities with 2024 looking set to be the best year in a while. It should go without saying that it’s essential to protect those all-important travel plans and we hope the APH Travel Insurance Guide helps travellers find the most suitable cover for their needs.”
