PR Insight: Five Top Tips for Navigating Travel and Lifestyle Influencer Campaigns

Having recently attended two premium influencer events in London, UK and New York State, USA, I spoke with some great content creators at length, and made some key observations regarding how travel and lifestyle brands can get the best out of influencer relationships and work most effectively with content creators.

Here are my five top tips:

  1. The works of influencer relations is ever increasing and so selecting the best ones to work with from the many is challenging. Creator networks, like Traverse and Black Travel Alliance, offer a shortcut to find travel and lifestyle creators who are professional and serious about their art, as these creators invest time and money in learning about relevant industries and meeting brands too.
  1. Don’t just rely on a creator’s media kit. Ask them about testimonials, or their collaborations that have been successful in the past. Recommendations demonstrate the creator knows how to be creative – and actually deliver.
  1. No two content creators are the same, so do speak to each creator you wish to engage with about what their passions are, so you can get the most out of your collaboration by really playing to their strengths.
  1. Ensure the creator ‘gets’ your brand before you start to work with them. Share a detailed written brief in advance, and follow up with a discussion call before work commences to ensure key information is understood.
  1. Some of the best creators are busy for months ahead, so do plan for collaborations that may not commence for 12-18 months. Plenty of time to get all contractual arrangements in place and campaign deliverables fleshed out.
