The US city of Philadelphia is proud to announce that it has been shortlisted in the ‘Best City Break for Families’ category at the Family Traveller Awards 2018.

Taking place on 27th November 2018 at the renowned Unicorn Theatre in London’s Southwark, the fourth annual Family Traveller Awards recognise the world’s best family-friendly travel operators, destinations, attractions and accommodation. Public voting for the awards is now open and travellers can cast their votes until Friday 2nd November 2018.

Known as the ‘birthplace of America’ following its vital role in the American Revolution, the historic and educational city of Philadelphia is home to many world-class and family-friendly attractions such as The Philadelphia Zoo, which was America’s first zoo and is home to over 1,300 animals including Bengal tigers and lions. For children who love to press every button, flick every switch, and pull every lever, the interactive Please Touch Museum thrills families with hands-on exhibits and the museum’s newest permanent gallery, “Healthy Me, Healthy Family, Healthy Community”, teaches children about the importance of nutrition and sustainability.

In 2018, the city also celebrated the opening of Treetop Quest, Philadelphia’s first treetop obstacle course, and the new Xtreme Bugs Exhibition at the Academy of Natural Sciences allows families to come face-to-feet with 20 giant, moving and clicking insects from around the world until 21st January 2019.

The prestigious judging panel will include a range of renowned UK travel industry experts, including: Jane Anderson, editorial director of Family Traveller magazine; Simon Reeve, BBC presenter; Mariella Frostrup, BBC Radio 4 presenter; Susan Ward Davies, travel director of ELLE and Jane Knight, travel editor of The Times and, new to the panel this year, TV and Radio presenter and parent blogger, Katy Hill.
