The Maldives has been shortlisted as ‘Best Honeymoon Destination’ and ‘Best Island’ finalist in the prestigious Luxury Lifestyle Magazine Readers’ Travel Awards 2018.

Thanks to its crystal-clear lagoons and picturesque white-sand beaches, it’s no surprise that the Maldives is one of 12 destinations up for the ‘Best Honeymoon’ spot and one of 10 competing for the impressive title of ‘Best Island’ destination. The awards’ well-travelled judging panel also named The Shangri-La’s Villingili Resort & Spa, Maldives, as a finalist for the ‘Best Hotel in Asia’ category.

The UK is one of the Maldives’ most important markets and this year is set to be an exciting time for the destination, with several tourism developments taking place, including expansion plans at Velana International Airport and the opening of at least 10 resorts during 2018 and 2019.

Voting is now open for the magazine’s first-ever travel awards and members of the public can choose their winning destinations, hotels and travel companies until 10 June 2018, with the winners revealed in the third week of June 2018.

Speaking about the upcoming awards, Mr Mohamed Haris, Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC), said: “The Maldives provides honeymooners and holidaymakers alike with a wide variety of resorts and packages to suit every budget and personality, so we’re very happy to have been shortlisted for the Readers’ Travel Awards by Luxury Lifestyle Magazine.
