The Maldives sponsored a gala dinner and drinks reception at Celtic Manor Resort’s Celebrity Cup in Newport, South Wales, from 13^th – 14^th July 2019, marking the first time a tourism brand has got involved in this prestigious golf event.

The gala dinner and drinks reception culminated in a charity raffle that showcased the Maldives and a five-night holiday for accommodation at two of Coco Collection’s resorts. Worth around £4,300, the prize was presented to lucky winner Mark Wheeldon on the night and includes three nights’ accommodation at the four-star Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu in Baa Atoll and two nights’ accommodation at the five-star Coco Bodu Hithi in North Malé Atoll.

The competition winner, Mark Wheeldon, is based in Edinburgh and will be accompanied on the holiday to Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu and Coco Bodu Hithi by his wife, Gill Wheeldon, the founder of The Bubble Foundation. The foundation, which is based at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, raises funds to provide medical research, toys, equipment and accommodation for babies born with defective immune systems. In 2016, singer Brian McFadden was announced as the new President of The Bubble Foundation, following his help in raising thousands of pounds for the Foundation since 2004.

Celtic Manor Resort’s annual Celebrity Cup sees some of the biggest names in sport and show business swap paparazzi for putters and battle it out in a thrilling clash between teams representing Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland. Stars teeing up at this year’s competition included actor James Nesbitt, TV presenter Gethin Jones, rugby player Mike Tindall and entrepreneur and TV star Peter Jones.
